a fallen fledgling
no mother comes to.

Passing storm
the rainbow pulled tight
between horizons.

a cry too quickly muffled
behind the glass door.

Vegetable garden
itching with eggs
the white cabbage moth.

Bush walk
my torch no longer
over father’s back.

The mountain stream
carrying it to the sea
grain by grain.

Drought’s end
thunder
tickling at the frog’s throat.

Her birthday puppy
counting its black spots
in licks and giggles.

Bed of sunflowers
absorbing bags
of blood and bone.

My crime novel
geese cries returning
in the death throes of night.
